01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Located in Utanobabacho, Ukyo Ward, Rakuten-o offers an unhurried yakiniku dining experience shaped by easy conversation with the welcoming owner. For first-timers or anyone undecided on what cuts to order, the omakase set is an appealing starting point. The owner tailors the platter to individual preferences, selecting the day's prime cuts so that every table enjoys a slightly different arrangement. Chatting about preferences often introduces guests to cuts they might not normally choose.

The meat selection spans premium Wagyu short rib (kalbi) and loin, prime lean selections like rump cap (ichibo), chuck flap (zabuton), and sirloin, down to tender tenderloin (fillet) and skirt steak (harami). Savoring skirt steak grilled just long enough to lock in the juices, or salted beef tongue enjoyed with a clean touch of salt, brings out the natural depth of the beef. Beyond prime cuts, the menu features a wide variety of offal cuts including first stomach (mino), large intestine (tetchan), abomasum (aka senmai), and aorta (korikori), alongside chicken and pork options to suit varied cravings.

Substantial meal options round out the grilled dishes, from stone-cooked bibimbap and yukhoe bibimbap to beef nigiri and spicy kalbi gukbap soup with rice. The kitchen also turns out playfully named "insanely delicious tamago kake gohan" (raw egg over rice), Korean cold noodles, homemade samgyetang, and beef offal hot pot, ensuring plenty of ways to close out the meal.

Open only in the evening with limited seating, the restaurant is best visited with an advance reservation. With a beer or glass of wine in hand, diners can settle into the unpretentious dining room and enjoy an unhurried yakiniku dinner.
